More on Tower House

Mendip has turned down the latest planning application for the Tower
House site. Apparently the decision is likely to go to appeal.

Meanwhile
in a separate development the Street Parish Council's move to have
Tower House listed has been turned down by the government.
The
Secretary of State, after consulting English Heritage, the
Government's statutory adviser, has decided not to add the above
building to the list. The reasons are:

Tower
House is not recommended for designation, for the following principal
reasons:

  • A late example of Italianate architecture that is not particularly
    distinguished.
  • Plain and lacking the high degree of good detailing associated with
    listed examples of Italianate houses.
