Music video of the day - Aubade

The very welcome visit of my brother and his dear wife gave us the opportunity to video a performance of 'Aubade', which I wrote for him when I had left school and he was still at school - round about 1955. Robert is playing his new flute. The little camera doesn't do the sound justice. The new flute has a lovely tone.

  3. I didn't get my flute till, I think, 1958. A relation of Mum's left her £200 "for the education of the children" I think it was. David used his share to go to Greece, Dorothy to Rome (Classicists both!) and I got a flute, starting lessons at school in September 1958. I had had a good grounding in the recorder, so was able to pick things up on the flute. I guess this "Aubade" was 1959. The name was suggested by Sandy Youngman (known as Penguin for his appearance in tails at school concerts), head of music at Monkton Combe School. I played it at a concert in the Pump Room I think)at Bath, which the school put on to raise money. I was accompanied by David Epps, assistant music teacher. A review in the local paper referred to "this charming little piece, written by the performer's brother" or some such words. The cutting used to be in the family visitors' book.
