Singing for Grade VIII

I've just had a pleasant hour accompanying a soprano in her Grade VIII songs, which she is preparing for the Associated Board next week. Her teacher came too, and after a shaky start everything warmed up, and we got on famously. When we went back to the first song at the end of our practice it went much better.

The songs she is singing are a Gluck aria, Schumann's Wiedmung (in G flat - I am used to A flat), Madeleine Dring's Take o take those Lips Away, and a Kurt Weill song. A nice variety. I enjoy the Kurt Weill, with its chance to be a little bit creative in the accompaniment, and to get a smoochy rhythm going for the chorus.
